SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund was initiated by the employees of Hillsborough County Government in 1987. The effort provided financial grants to individuals for use in the pursuit of their educational goals without regard to race, age, creed, gender or income. In 1992, City of Tampa employees joined the venture.
An executive committee, a board of directors and a board of trustees administer the Scholarship fund, which is incorporated under the laws of the State of Florida, and is a not-for-profit corporation.
The Memorial Scholarship Fund is supported by payroll deductions from county and city employees and tax deductible contributions from individuals, groups and corporate sponsorships. Since 1988 over $850,000 in scholarships has been awarded.
HOW TO APPLY: MUST BE A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR!
Download and complete the scholarship application form ; attach the required documents and MAIL TO: The Scholarship Selection Committee P.O. Box 173041, Tampa, FL 33672-0041 or HAND DELIVER TO: Antonia Barber at Lee Davis Neighborhood Service Center located at 3402 N. 22nd St. APPLICATIONS must be post-marked by DECEMBER 1, 2008 .
Scholarships are not renewable. Only one application can be submitted per person. Applications will be reviewed and rated by a scholarship selection committee. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievement, financial need, and community service. All recipients will be required to perform 50 hours of Community Service for a “Non-Profit Organization.” Winners will be notified in February 2009.
